02What the module does

Less routine. More value.

IP address management provides an inventory of IP ranges and addresses for internet service providers. For every address, you can see its status and which customer, service, and device it is assigned to. The system ensures every address falls within its range and cannot be entered twice.

  • IP ranges in one registryFor each IP range, you record the CIDR block (address range notation), IP version, purpose, gateway, VLAN, and location—keeping all ISP networks in a single registry.
  • Consistent range notationOn save, the system normalizes the CIDR notation and verifies that it matches the selected IP version, preventing messy records and invalid ranges.
  • Clear status for every addressFor each IP address, you track its status, MAC address (hardware device identifier), reverse DNS, and public address flag—keeping all address details in one place.
  • Every address stays within its rangeOn save, the system verifies that the address falls within its range’s CIDR block, so you can never accidentally place an address into the wrong range.
  • No duplicate addressesDuplicate addresses are rejected both by validation on save and by a unique database index, ensuring the same address is never entered twice in a range.
  • Know who holds each addressYou link each address to a customer, service, device, and responsible user, so when handling a support request you immediately know who and what it belongs to.
  • Four clear address statusesAn address is free, reserved, assigned, or blocked. Reservations and blocks are set manually by a person, giving you a clear overview of what is available.
  • Assignment timestamps logged automaticallyWhenever an address status changes, the system automatically logs the assignment or release time, so you can see exactly when an address was in use.
  • Assignment service ready for integrationThe service assigns and releases addresses transactionally and recycles free addresses first. There is no built-in button or workflow in the app yet; it is connected through custom configuration for a specific company.
  • Status changes trigger workflowsChanging an address status fires an event that workflows in the Automation module can respond to, letting you configure follow-up steps to match your process.

What is currently in progress

  • Automatic address assignment and release exists as a backend service, but there is no built-in button or pre-made workflow in the application; it is wired up via customization for your company.

03How it works

How it works step by step.

  1. IP ranges

You enter a range as a CIDR block along with its IP version, purpose, gateway, VLAN, and location. On save, the system normalizes the CIDR notation and verifies that it matches the selected IP version. Each range can be assigned to a responsible user.

  2. IP addresses and assignments

Each address belongs to a range and carries a status, a public address flag, a MAC address, and reverse DNS. You can link it to a customer (company), a service, a device from asset management, and a responsible user.

    Read in detail

On save, the system converts the address to a canonical format, verifies that it falls within its range’s CIDR block, and rejects any duplicate within the range. A unique database index also prevents duplicates. Whenever the status changes, the assignment and release timestamps are recorded.

  3. Address statuses

An address can be free, reserved, assigned, or blocked. Reservations and blocks are set manually by a person. A status change—such as when an address becomes assigned—triggers an event that a workflow in the Automation module can respond to.

  4. Automatic assignment

The system includes a service for automatically assigning and releasing addresses. Assignment runs inside a transaction, recycles free addresses first before creating a new record, and retries automatically if two requests collide. The address is saved directly as assigned along with its links; releasing it returns it to the free status and clears the links.

    Read in detail

This service needs to be wired up via a custom integration for your company—for example, triggered by a button action or when a service record is saved. There is no pre-built button or workflow in the application yet.

04What runs automatically

Automations that save time.

  1. Validation on every save

On save, the system automatically normalizes CIDR and IP address notation and verifies that the address belongs to its range, keeping your records consistent.

  2. Effortless assignment history

When an address status changes, the system records the assignment or release timestamp automatically—no manual data entry required.

  3. Assignments can trigger follow-up steps

When an address status changes—for example, to assigned—an event is generated for workflows in the Automation module, so you can chain your own follow-up process.

05Frequently asked questions

Does Draivix prevent duplicate IP addresses?

Yes. Duplicate addresses within a range are rejected both by validation on save and by a unique database index.

Can I assign an IP address to a specific customer?

Yes. You can link an address to a company, a service, a device from asset management, and a responsible user.

What statuses can an IP address have?

Free, reserved, assigned, and blocked. Reservations and blocks are set manually by a person, and assignment and release timestamps are logged automatically.

Does Draivix assign IP addresses automatically?

A service for automatic assignment and release is built in, but it needs to be connected via custom configuration for your company. Manual assignment works out of the box.
